If you aim at one with the wrong gun, Hunting Simulator 2 warns you you're using the wrong caliber. 30-06, ideal for large game like deer, elk, and bison, would completely obliterate a bobcat or wild boar. Hunting Simulator 2 also doesn't allow you to just blast away at every animal no matter what the caliber rifle or gauge of shotgun you have. Since this is a simulator and not a "game," the hunting is pretty realistic insomuch as it takes a lot of walking and waiting before you see anything worth aiming at. It's truly a walking simulator, but once I adjusted, I found it relaxing rather than annoying, especially with the ambient sounds of the wind and birds chirping in the distance. Walking feels incredibly slow, almost to the point of frustration, but once I learned to zero in my patience, I was rewarded by finding more animals, and even finding more evidence of animals like tracks and droppings. My instinct was to run around the maps like a madman, but you actually get penalized for doing so: animals are much more likely to hear you running than walking, and you actually see fewer. Campsites are fast-travel locations, only unlocked after discovery, and they're spread out pretty well over the massive maps. I found it relaxing, especially with the ambient sounds of the wind and birds chirping in the distance.Īside from the different animals to hunt, and different scenery and terrain, maps are tied together with campsites, a cabin, and different towers and blinds to discover. Each location has its own different geography and animals, although there is some crossover between them, as is the case in real life (for example, real whitetail deer are damn near everywhere in the US now). There are two Colorado locations, two in Texas, and two European hunting grounds. Initially I didn't think the wind direction made a difference, but after my virtual-scent alerted my presence to a trophy elk, I made sure my item list for the next hunt included a bottle.Īfter you're fully outfitted with your guns and gear (and dog, of course), you select from one of six different locations, grouped into three geographical areas. They're all really useful, particularly the wind indicators. They're easy to use: pushing a button brings up your item wheel and it's a simple matter of hitting the action button to use them. On top of guns and apparel, there are binoculars and range finders, as well as consumables like scent lures, scent-covers, and wind-direction indication sprays. The licensed apparel and firearms make for a more realistic setting, with names instantly recognizable to anyone who hunts as a hobby. ![]() The selection of hunting guns is huge, and Hunting Simulator 2 has officially-licensed firearms from companies like Winchester, as well as officially-licensed outdoor gear from outfitters like Browning. There's more than just dogs to add to your hunting lodge: you can purchase gear, new guns, and even bows to spice things up a bit. You can choose to hunt without any companions, but they're super useful for small prey, and if you're going to hit your bag limit, they'll expedite the process by retrieving, pointing, and following scent trails. I really like how Hunting Simulator 2 requires you to bring along the right dog for the job. No respectable outdoorsman would leave carcasses like that, and I was appropriately fined when I returned to my hunting lodge. I found out the importance of bringing along a retriever (I named him Puppers and he's a good boy) when I went duck hunting and discovered I couldn't swim out to get my trophies. There are zero bloodstains to contend with, which is a bonus. Each dog breed is specialized for a task: pointers will "point" in the direction of a hidden animal, while retrievers do exactly what their name implies. You start off with a beagle, adept at sniffing out tracks and putting you on the path to a trophy, but you can add more dogs to your kennel as you progress. In fact, it helps build your bond with the canine companions that venture out into the wilderness with you. I'll just get this one out of the way immediately: you can pet the dog. It sacrifices some realism for the sake of quality of life, sure, and it lacks any kind of concrete goals, but at the end of the day, I found Hunting Simulator 2 a fun and oddly relaxing way to spend some time. As a simulation, it does a great job, and as a game, it also succeeds. ![]() Plus there are zero bloodstains to contend with, which is another bonus. Hunting Simulator 2 scratches the primordial hunter-itch I didn't know I still had, while allowing me to stalk prey from the comfort of my home office. While I don't go hunting anymore, almost everyone I know is obsessed with it (I still live in Maine), and I have been known to stalk whitetail with a camera rather than a loaded rifle.

Rather, his strong stance comes from the fact that Russell’s legacy is simply unmatched. Russell, who competed against the Philadelphia 76ers throughout his storied Celtics career, was an 11-time champion and five-time MVP. Shortly after his death on July 31, Bill Russell was honored by the NBA, which announced a permanent, league-wide retirement of the No. And that should never be forgotten.Former Philadelphia 76ers Julius Erving, Kobe Bryant #24 of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Bryant's Lower Merion High School basketball coach Gregg Downer share a moment. His jersey was retired, and a statue erected. When he retired in 1987, he was honored with a parade through the streets of Philadelphia. Delaware County Daily Times sports columnist Jack McCaffery has always said that when the game was on the line, Erving’s demeanor would change - that it was abundantly clear he knew it was time to get down to business. We win together, we lose together.’ I think that was, to me, his greatest quality.” He knows he can do it, but (when) you’re in a position where you have to do it and you don’t do it, it takes strength of character to say, ‘We’re in this together. That’s what stood out in my mind, I think, the entire time I was with him: He wasn’t arrogant. “Your hear a lot about superstars, (how) they put pressure on younger guys to come up to their level,” Jones told me. When I talked to Jones for the 2014 book 100 Things 76ers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die, he was no less complimentary. And after it was over, it’s impossible to overstate how many people were happy for him, above everyone else. Then Moses Malone arrived, which lightened Doc’s load but allowed him to save himself for big moments - like those in the clincher. Philadelphia also fell to the Lakers in the ‘80 and ‘82 Finals, and after a Game Six loss in the latter series, Erving wept in the locker room of Los Angeles’ Great Western Forum. That led to the unfortunate “We Owe You One” ad campaign, not to mention repeated heartache. In all Erving notched seven points in the last two minutes and change of that one, a theatrical ending to a title quest that extended back to his first year with the Sixers, when they fell to Portland in the ‘77 Finals. But a personal favorite was his elbow jumper with 24 seconds left in Game Four of the ‘83 Finals (as shown at 1:35 of this video) which provided the Sixers, up three-love in the series, with a three-point lead and a path to victory. Signature Moment(s): His gravity-defying reverse layup in the 1980 Finals deserves mention, as does his rock-the-baby dunk in a 1983 regular-season game (at :26 of this video) that both came against a heavyweight team like the Lakers is certainly no coincidence, as Doc always thrived on a big stage. ® SEAHAWKS, SEAHAWKS LOGO, SPIRIT OF 12, WE ARE 12, BRING ON THE 12, LEGION OF BOOM, 12 and 12S are trademarks of the Seattle Seahawks.
